Bridal costume of Skopelos (Sporades islands). Early 20th century (© Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, Nafplion). The bridal costume of Skopelos is called foustána or stófa after the long, richly pleated outer sleeveless dress, which is made of sixteen metres of black silk satin . In earlier times it had a hem of brocade (stófa), which was later replaced by a band of lavish embroidery with the same floral designs.
