Eat Like a Local in Santorini-Remember these words: Pan fired crusted feta cheese with honey. Perhaps you have seen this item on menus around the world – but please wait and eat it here. Maybe you will only have it once in your lifetime – or until you return to the Isle of Santorini. But that will be enough.

Eat Like a Local in Santorini-Visit traditional food shops for: Santorini wines, ouzo, tsipuro, canned fruits and seeds for tomatoes, fava and squash. TIP: Bring a hardcase suitcase to stash the wine in and keep bottle intact. Search for: Kotsi (a delicious meat not found on menus but whispered to waiters who nod) and Loukoumi, ice cream with real sugared rose petals.

Eat Like a Local in Santorini-Tomato-kefides: Not the fried green tomatoes of the American south but the deep fried RED tomatoes of Santorini mixed with herbs, butter, onions and whatever secret ingredient each restaurant adds to make this meatless meatball recipe their own.

Mikrolimano Athens (by Marilena Salamanou )(a part of Piraeus)! Mikrolimano is such a scenic neighborhood with its small port and a hill overlooking it. One of its advantages is that you can visit this neighborhood easily, by using the green line until Faliro. And then it is only 10 minutes on foot. In case you are hungry my favorite restaurants are: “Ammos” for fish and “Vosporos” for meat.

Number one thing to know: when you go to a restaurant insist on local tomatoes in your salad! The cherry tomatoes grown on Santorini may be the best tasting tomatoes you will ever have. Let the uninformed tourists eat imported tomatoes – you know better.

Coast to Coast Athens (by Marilena Salamanou) “Stories from the city, stories from the sea”. I think it is the ideal soundtrack for this walk along the coastline. time to take a break and visit the coastline of Athens! There are kilometers of coastline from Faliro, and it keeps going to Elliniko, Alimos, Glyfada, Voula and even further!

Pnyx Athens (by Dimitris Hall) one of the less visited ones, given its historical importance. It’s the place where the Ekklesia, the assembly of the Ancient Athenian democracy, had their meetings and where well-known orators of the antiquity captivated their audience. Sitting around Pnyx it’s hard not to catch some of the direct democratic vibe. The stone vistas seem to have changed little in the interluding 2500 years that have transformed the rest of the city.

Peonia Athens (by Dimitris Hall) Amfiktionos 12, Peonia (pronounced Peh-ón-ee-ah, a Greek species of flower but also an incidental anagram of the Greek word for ‘Japan’) is a Zen tea and herbalism shop. The ridiculously quiet atmosphere is perfect for enjoying your game of go, a good book (including from their own spirituality collection) and, of course, the wide variety of exotic and unique teas and other beverages
