Religion: This is one of the floats that are part of Apokries, a Greek carnival. Apokries is a celebration that comes before Easter and lasts three weeks. There are parades, masked parties and other events. On the last day of Carnival, Greeks eat lots of garlic and onion to keep the devil away. Then Lent begins, and most Greeks don't eat for the first and last weeks. 40 days later, Easter begins. Easter is the biggest and most religious holiday in Greece.

Foods eaten during the period of lent in Greece. This is a typical festive meal one can enjoy on Clean Monday (Kathara Deftera) which marks the end of the Greek Carnival (Apokries – meaning good-bye to meat) and the beginning of Lent, the fast which lasts until Easter. VISIT GREECE| Greek #coffee is a strong brew, served with foam on top and the grounds in the bottom of the cup. Although it can be made in a different pot, the traditional small pot is best because it allows the proper amount of foam, which adds to the unique taste.
