Act 2 3. At the end of Act 2, Ibsen wants us to feel hopeless. After being so emotionally attached to the characters and everything that is happening, he wants us to feel the fear and sadness for what is to come. The only chance Nora has is if Mrs. Linde can convince Krogstad to take back the letter, which is slim. This picture represents the hopelessness we feel. It symbolizes how all we can do is watch the play and plot slowly blow up.
