What is this place? Read this ⤵️ This cute little passage is one of the most photogenic corners of Rome and it is called “Arco dei Banchi” (Arch of the Banks). Why? Because after you walk through this little passage you end up in a little alley that used to be a courtyard. A courtyard belonging to the richest banker in Europe in the 1500s, Agostino Chigi. That’s why the name “Banchi” (banks). This is in fact where Agostino had his residency and bank in Rome (and where bankers in general had their shops). You might hear about Agostino Chigi more than once while looking for hidden gems in Rome.. 😉 💎 He in fact commissioned the decoration of his villa in Trastevere, Villa Farnesina, to none other than..
