How to Make Substrates for Mosaics
Slate often needs to be split before using it in a mosaic. This process can also reveal interesting surfaces. Here I am using a plane/spokeshave blade to split a piece of Easdale slate. I teach this and much more in my online class, ‘Slate Mosaic’ available via Mosaic Arts Online. Materials used • Easdale slate • Hammer • Plane/spokeshave blade (a chisel also works!)
