The son of a Roman proconsul, Holy GreatMartyr Demetrius the Myrrh-gusher of Thessalonica was secretly raised Christian. Young Saint Demetrius became proconsul and was told to eradicate Christianity. Instead, Saint Demetrius preached openly, converting many pagans. He confessed Christ before the emperor. At dawn on Oct 26, year 306, soldiers speared him to death. 100 years later his relics were found incorrupt. Frangrant myrrh has been flowing under his crypt since the 7th century. (Oct 26)
