Aris Velouchiotis, a communist chieftain in the mountains of Greece, poses during the Nazi occupation. A journalist in civilian life, Aris was the leader of the Black Berets, communist thugs with a long string of atrocities to their credit. Note the ceremonial dagger carried by Greek Army cadets for the duration of their studies at the Military Academy. Aris apparently liked the visual effect.

King George of Greece (in khaki, with staff) went into exile when the Axis powers occupied Greece in 1941. His return to Greece, forced by British arms, helped to ignite a communist insurgency that lasted from 1946 to 1949 and devastated an already half dead country. With him are his brother, Prince (later King) Paul and his wife Princess (later Queen) Frederica.
