Carl Maxie Brashear, the first African American to become a United States Navy master diver, died 7/25/06. Born 01/19,1931 in Tonieville, Ky. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948, graduated from the Navy Diving & Salvage School in 1954, the first African American navy diver.
