The Camarinal Lighthouse was originally, a beacon tower called "Od Tower" or Tower of Cabo de Gracia". It is a tower built in the sixteenth century by Philip II to protect the coast of Cadiz against the actions of looting of pirates. Later in 1990 it was restored and fitted out as a lighthouse. Its traditional profile has been altered by the installation of the lighthouse lantern and the modern spiral staircase. The alterations to the tower was in 1989.
