~ Pierrefonds Castle. is a castle situated in the commune of Pierrefonds in the Oise département (Picardy) of France. It is on the southeast edge of the Forest of Compiègne, north of Paris, between Villers-Cotterêts and Compiègne.
The entrance gateway seen from the inside. I just love the stonework of this beautiful, fortified, medieval, Manor house. It was used as the location for the home of Mr Rochester, in the BBC production of Jane Eyre. The fire scenes where pyrotechnic special effects allowed the Hall to 'burn' through the night resulted in nearly 100 calls to the fire brigade by worried local residents.
26/1/12 - This door is in the Tower of London, building first began in the year of 1080 so that makes part of the tower of London 932 years old, it has also had some famous residents such as Guy Fawkes, Lady Jane Grey and Queen Anne Boleyn.
From England to Ireland to Spain, castles abound in all their glory and remain a part of world history. Some, if not most, have seen their fair share of damage from enemy attacks and weather and have since been restored. These castles still stand today and attract a high number of tourists annually.
