Rocky Marciano (Rocco Francis Marchegiano; Sep 1, 1923 – Aug 31, 1969), an American professional boxer and the World Heavyweight Champion from Sep 23, 1952, to Apr 27, 1956. He defended his title six times, against Jersey Joe Walcott, Roland La Starza, Ezzard Charles (twice), Don Cockell, and Archie Moore. He has been ranked by many boxing historians as one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time.

Rocky Marciano - Jersey Joe Walcott, Death & Facts

Sept 1, 1923 - Rocky Marciano born in Brockton, Massachusetts. He started fighting as a professional boxer in 1948, winning a fight against Harry Bilizarian. He then went on to win his first 16 fights. In 1952, he beat Jersey Joe Walcott for the world heavyweight championship. Marciano defended his title six times. He retired in 1956 and died on August 31, 1969, near Newton, Iowa.
