Portable paintings on wood The preparation of the wood for painting is done with the traditional Byzantine technique. The pigments I use are the traditional earthen pigment (powder) which is mixed with egg yolk and vinegar (egg tempera). The gold gilding is done with 22 carat gold leaf. After completing the painting, varnish is applied for protection. .
