I designed a Veteran's Day project in which each student decorated a red, white, or blue square with a thank you note. Each square formed part of a flag which was printed it as a postcard. The Veterans of Foreign Wars kindly provided the addresses of the local veterans, who received the postcards along with a thank you note from the students. This project was reported in the Chicago Tribune (Trib Local Aurora) as well as the Aurora Beacon News.
