Marios Varvoglis

Marios Varvoglis (born in Brussels on December 10, 1885 – died in Athens on July 30, 1967). Greek composer. He studied music in Paris and remained in Montparnasse where he maintained close relations with Casella, Ravel, Varèse and Modigliani, whose last painting was a portrait of Varvoglis. After 1920 he taught at the Athens Conservatory and he became active as a music critic and conductor. He is considered one of the founders of the Greek National School of music.
