Dec 11, 2014 - For our latest DIY, we decided to take some homemade beauty masks for a test run. And with the weather getting colder (and colder), we'll take all the extra beauty tips and tricks that we can get. Taken from the book Homemade Beauty by Annie Strole, a Brooklyn-based makeup artist and natural beauty expert, our first mask features cucumber and avocado, which makes it perfect for winter skin - the avocado rehydrates while the cucumber soothes. The second mask we whipped up was a super, super simple banana yogurt mask that promises to reduce oil while still keeping our skin moisturized. The book has a million more beauty recipes (like how to make our own shaving cream!), and we're excited to try them all out now. See the recipes for our current two favorites below! Cucumber Avocado Mask: Needed: -1/4 cucumber, chopped -1 avocado, stoned and peeled -1 tablespoon yogurt -1 teaspoon honey 1. Place ingredients in a blender and blend on low or medium until smooth. (Tip: if you don't have a blender or just like a thicker mask, you can also blend by hand in a bowl, which is what we did here.) 2. Apply mask and let sit for 20 minutes. 3. To get the full spa effect, use some of the remaining cucumber to make cooling eye pads. Banana Mask: Needed: -1 banana -2 tablespoons yogurt -juice of 1/2 lemon 1. Mash banana until free of lumps. 2. Transfer to a bowl and stir in yogurt and lemon juice. 3. Apply evenly on the face, making sure to focus on the T-zone, where oil is most prevalent. Let sit for 20 minutes and then wash off.
