Vincent van Gogh by John Peter Russell

This striking portrait of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was painted by his Australian expat friend and fellow artist John Peter Russell (1858-1930) in 1886. According to those who knew him, this is the most accurate likeness of van Gogh, more so than the expressionistic self-portraits painted by van Gogh himself.
