The chlamys, referred to also as the ephaptis, was a type of cloak worn by men in classical Greece. Essentially, it consists of a woolen rectangle the size of a blanket. It was originally put around the waist like a loin clothe but as time passed they started wearing it over the elbows. While it could be layered over clothing it was often the only piece of clothing worn by soldiers or messengers.
