The chestnut tree, also called "artodendro"  blooms in the spring and the chestnuts ripen from early September to late November, depending on the conditions and variety making chestnuts one of the typical fruits of winter. In the Macedonian Province of northern Greece, the chestnut growers are cultivating the chestnut fertile villages "Kastanochoria" of the Paiko Mountain region.
