Even in eastern Canada you will see the glorious Bloodgood Japanese Maple thriving, hardy to minus 30. This is one my favorite small trees. This is an Eastern Redbud, a close cousin of the California native, Western Redbud. This tree has pink flowers in the spring, followed by purple foliage around Mother's Day. Over the next 5 months, the foliage will slowly turn color from purple to green and finally to yellow or orange in October. In San Diego, the Forest Pansy Redbud gets about 15 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Photo by Doug Kalal
