Nearly a century ago the italians that occupied the island of Rhodes founded Kolymbia, a farmers’ village. The main feature of the village (not more than a dozen of houses around the olive groves) was a clock tower and the road of eucalyptus that heads directly to sea. Today the trees provide a spectacular arch of exactly 2,000 meters length!

The Temple of Apollo is part of the Acropolis of Rhodes dating from the Hellenistic period (3rd–2nd century BC). It is built on top of Monte Smith hill , named for English admiral William Sydney Smith who used the hill to watch french naval activities. Rhodes is one of the few islands in the Aegean with generous supplies of water all year round. Fasuli Springs near Psinthos Village are the natural habitat of Gizani (Ladigesocypris ghigii) a small endemic fish.Gizani is a lilliputian champion of survival, since it manages to live in the extremely unstable environment of the streams of Rhodes, which may flood during winter, but they dry up for most of their length during the dry season.
