ESR Graphic Fuzz

Gnarly, oscillating fuzz tone–this is a bit of a weird one. The original used both positive and negative 9v (which I have a hard time wrapping my head around). FSB forum member Induction altered the circuit to support standard power supplies, so no need for a 9v battery or adding a +/- converter. And it should sound very close to the original. Here's his schematic for reference. Should easily fit in a 1590a. There's also a fabricated version of this circuit in the store, the OSCillot. Here's…

Perf and PCB Effects Layouts: MXR Commande Sustain

MXR Commande Sustain

Here's one from MXR you probably haven't heard of before. It was apart of their Commande line of plastic boxed effects from the late 80s. They aren't highly regarded because of the plastic, but the circuits were pretty well designed. The circuit in question today is a better design than the DynaComp, offering less distortion and more sustain. It does have a little less compression range than the DynaComp, but also less noise. (And really, who needs that much squish? haha) Couldn't find a…

Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop Overdrive

This one was a request. Two pots onboard and one offboard. The Barbershop Overdrive is a transparent overdrive/booster with medium gain. It has the expected Volume and Drive controls, but also has a Sag control which alters the voltage the pedal is running at. This can change the color and compression of the tone. UPDATE: I did a little research, and found out Q4 is just a fancy way of doing polarity protection and can be omitted if you want. Here's a layout without it.

Perf and PCB Effects Layouts: Lovepedal Delux 60 Mosfet Boost

Lovepedal Delux 60 Mosfet Boost

Hadn't done a boost pedal in a while and hadn't done a Lovepedal pedal in a while either, so I'm killing 2 birds with one stone. The Delux 60 uses a Mosfet gain stage set to give clean boost or to push a tube amp into break up. It's simple but effective. This'll fit into a 1590a pretty easily too.

Perf and PCB Effects Layouts: September 2018

Perf and PCB Effects Layouts

Found a trace of this over on the Tagboard Forum. It appears to be a highly modified Fuzzrite with an added gain recovery stage and a lot of value changes. The Saturation pot increases the output cap of the first stage, and the Fuzz pot is a pregain control. Originals use PN2222 transistors for Q1-2, which is a TO-92 packaged 2N2222A, so either will work just fine. Here's the schematic for reference and I there are fabricated boards for this in the store.

D*A*M GB-83 GreaseBox

This is the silicon version of the GB-80. The darlington pair of transistors in the GB-80 aren't needed as silicon transistors have enough gain, and the rest of the circuit has just been tweaked for the silicon transistors. One problem people seemed to have cloning this circuit over on FSB was biasing the transistors properly. The 260k resistor from the base of Q1 to ground could either be socketed and experimented with to get the right value, or replaced with a 500k trim pot to dial in the…

Dunlop Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face

Here's the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face from Dunlop for Fuzz Friday. Despite being called a Fuzz Face, the actual circuitry of the Band of Gypsys version isn't even close to the original Fuzz Face. It's pretty close to an Octavia without the transformer. Here's the schematic for reference.
