1753-1754 British Standing shelf at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York - Yet another great example of the East Asian influence in European decorative arts at this time in history, this shelf is almost fantastical in appearance. There is no way this could be taken for a Chinese- or Japanese-made piece - the combination of elements is decidedly European, I think.
