I've never been really close to either of my parents. Just codependent on my mom, but definitely not close. My dad is like nothing to me. No one understands. You are a terrible daughter if you don't honor and appreciate your parents. I think there's a lot more to parenting than providing food, shelter, and money. Especially when you put them in a chronically negative or empty environment, but I'm exaggerating and not allowed to say that.
