Atari is responsible for bringing mainstream gaming into our homes. It was affordable. It was the closest you could get to having the real arcade experience in your living room.  Most of the games were only imitations of the real games available in the cabinets but it didn't matter. I remember looking at magazines with advertisements like this one in ways many boys my age were looking at magazines with different kinds of pictures. Those were the early signs of being a geek.
