India-ink sketch to Psalm 28(29) from the Utrecht Psalter, c816. According to the text of the psalm, this is a young, gambolling Unicorn, which here, skipping headlong as the wind, has run its horn fast into a tree trunk. The Utrecht Psalter, currently in Utrecht University Library, is considered the most important and earliest product of the Rheims school of painting. It contains still a few further Unicorn pictures.
