Thomas Edward Lawrence, CB, DSO (16 August 1888 - 19 May 1935) was a British archaeologist, scholar, mapmaker, military strategist, author, and army officer best known for his efforts in the Arab Revolt against the Turks. He spoke several languages (including English, Arabic, French, and ancient Greek), was Oxford-educated, and is generally credited for the creation of the tactics for modern guerilla warfare.
