Eight thousend miles of home. This exhibition piece consists of around twelve thousend (12,000!) silkworm cocoons assembled on a hand-soldered wire matrix, the whole incorporated with light. Each cocoon contains two thirds of a mile of silk filament, so that the total displayed in the installation equals eight thousand miles. The form of the piece, one half of a figure of eight, echoes the movement a silkworm makes three hundred thousand times in creating its cocoon.
