In April, five months after its troops had subdued the Italians, the glory that was Greece failed. Axis forces, mostly German, rushed in from Romania and Bulgaria. The Greeks, bolstered by 58,000 British soldiers, fought bravely again. But by late May the Nazi flag was hoisted over the Acropolis.

Greece, Rahil Meyir Ezra, a Holocaust survivor. Prisoner number: 77098. Born in Ioannina, Greece. Deported by the Germans from Ioannina to the camps on 25/03/1944. Was interne d in Birkenau and Bergen Belsen. Released in Germany on 15/09/1945, and returned to Greece the same year.

Greece, Eftihia Levi Stavrocopoulu, a Holocaust survivor. Prisoner number: A-8326. The sorrow in her eys and on her face shows the horrors she lived through.  Born in Corfu, Greece. Deported from Corfu to the camps by the Germans on 09/06/1944. Was interned in Birkenau and Auschwitz. Released in Germany on 18/08/1945, and returned to Greece the same year.
